A Tulsa police officer was arrested early Saturday morning for stealing cash during a traffic stop. Officer Marvin Blades Junior, 37, is charged with one count of robbery in the 2nd degree. During a news conference on Saturday, TPD Chief Chuck Jordan said he believes the officer was acting alone. "I promised the citizens of Tulsa 18 months ago that we would target any criminal or unethical behavior committed by our officers," said Chief Jordan. "Last night approximately at 2:00 a.m. Tulsa police arrested one of their own." Investigators with the TPD Special Investigations Division, Robbery and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics began investigating Blades Jr. several months ago after allegations surfaced that he'd been targeting Hispanic drivers in the area of North Lewis Avenue. On Friday night, officers conducted a sting operation. An undercover agent with the OBN was pulled over by Blades Jr. in the 2800 block of North Lewis. Investigators say Blades Jr. ordered the driver to the rear of the car, but had him leave his wallet on the seat. That's when investigators claim the officer stole six $100 bills from inside the wallet. He then sent the driver on his way.Investigators observed the officer until they could safely arrest him several hours later. They found $600 in his right pants pocket. Blades Jr. told them it belonged to his wife, but the serial numbers on the bills matched the ones in the wallet. Officer Marvin Blades Jr. was working the first shift in the Gilcrease Division at the time of the arrest. "While I am disappointed and disturbed by the actions of this single officer, I am at the same time proud of his peers who came forward immediately and reported such behavior," said Chief Jordan. The next challenge for Chief Jordan is instilling confidence back into the Hispanic community in Tulsa. "I am glad that the good Lord saw to it that somebody in the department saw what he (Blades) was doing and had the right mind to let other authority to know what was happening," said Dr. Victor Orta, a local pastor at a north Tulsa church. Orta is disappointed in officer Blades and is concerned about his community's trust in the police. He said they left other Hispanic countries to escape police corruption. "There is a lot of corruption there (other countries) with the cops and all and they are alarmed and stunned that it is happening here too," said Dr. Orta. He said he knows Blades was targeting undocumented Hispanics because they would be afraid to report Blades on account of their immigration status. "We will encourage our Hispanics to not be afraid, and to call," said Dr. Orta. "Organizations out there, Hispanic First Commission, our churches, the Immigration Reform and Control Committees, Catholic charities; we will encourage them and volunteer to go with them so they will not be deprived of protection from the police." Dr. Orta believes the Hispanic community will learn to trust the local authorities. "I say yes because Hispanics in our culture we respect those in authority and as a Christian we know the bible says to respect those in authority."Officer Marvin Blades Junior was booked on a $25,000 bond. Police say their investigation of the deadly shooting spree in Tulsa, Okla., will include the racially charged Facebook postings of a man arrested this morning in connection to the attacks, although they say it's premature to describe the incident as a hate crime. Two white men were arrested in connection with the random attacks that left three black pedestrians dead and two in critical condition, police said. Jake England, 19, and Alvin Watts, 32, were arrested at a house north of Tulsa around 2 a.m. this morning and are expected to be charged with three counts of murder and two counts of shooting with intent to kill, according to officials. "I'm just really amazed at how quickly we were able to apprehend these two subjects," Task force commander Maj. Walter Evans said at a news conference today. "But there are still a whole lot of unanswered questions that we have to have answered." The shootings occurred nearly two years to the day after a black man shot England's father to death, according to his Facebook posting. But the FBI's James Finch, who was part of the task force handling the case, today called it "very premature to talk about hate crimes. We have yet to analyze all the information to understand the motivations of the subjects in this case." Although police were reluctant to call the killings a hate crime, others were less so.

Christa Engles, 26, died Monday just an hour after being shot in the head by her 3-year-old son inside their Tulsa, Okla., home. Cops said the child found a 'large caliber' handgun and fired one shot that hit his mother in the head. A young mom was accidentally shot dead Monday by her toddler son as she changed her 1-year-old daughter's diaper, police in Oklahoma said. The "horrible, horrible accident," happened around 4:30 p.m., when the 3-year-old boy found the loaded semiautomatic handgun and fired a shot, hitting 26-year-old Christa Engles in the head. Police said there were several guns in the home, but the toddler found the "large caliber" handgun under a couch before he fired the fatal bullet. As the little boy was taken from the home to be interviewed by police, he repeated over and over again. Brian Engles, the husband, was working out of state as a truck driver when he learned his wife had been hospitalized with a life-threatening gunshot wound. Cop charged in death takes lump-sum pension Pension board records show a Tulsa police officer accused of killing his daughter's boyfriend retired from the force last month and collected a $162,000 pension in a lump-sum payment. While state law would prevent officers convicted of felonies from collecting monthly payments, the state Police Pension and Retirement Board won't be able to reclaim Shannon Kepler's lump-sum payment if he is convicted. "Our position is that we haven't been able to do that. We are going by kind of the plain reading of the statutes," said board executive director Steven Snyder. The only way Kepler could receive a monthly pension would be if he was given a deferred sentence, the newspaper reported. Kepler is accused of killing Jeremey Lake while off-duty last August as Lake walked with Kepler's 19-year-old daughter Lisa. His next court hearing is Dec. 18. The newspaper reported the board approved Kepler's request to retire and collect his pension during a Nov. 19 meeting. His retirement date was listed as Nov. 1, and he qualified for about four years' worth of payments in a lump sum. With a monthly benefit at $2,947 and a minimum pension plan interest rate of 7.5 percent, that totaled about $162,000. While the law says crimes must be "related to their office or employment" to impact a pension, Snyder said Kepler would be disqualified from a pension if convicted."All police officers take an oath to uphold the constitution of the state of Oklahoma as well as the laws of Oklahoma. That violation would constitute a breach of their oath," he said. Kepler's attorney, Richard O'Carroll, said he believes the law would let Kepler keep a monthly pension.

"The Muslims in our community are all fantastic people who do a lot for our community so that's what we're upset about...them deciding to just bash an entire group of people and we won't stand for it," says Joshua Oaks with the Oklahoma Center for Community and Justice. Oklahoma got a large dose of winter Saturday. Tulsa was surprised by about two inches of snow, which came down hard from time to time. At least two people were injured in one of several crashes throughout the area. A winter weather advisory was issued around Tulsa and even into some parts of Arkansas. The snow is gradually tapering off as the storm moves east.

The latter, of course, is far from the truth, yet if you stick with this path, you'll be accused of this by people you know. Many soldiers claim to be snipers, and many others say that they know a sniper, but in reality, a "real" sniper is extremely rare. Chris joined the Army to be a sniper. He knew that he had a gift to shoot, and wanted to use that gift to be an asset in the military to serve his country. Chris worked hard to secure a spot in sniper school, and in October 2010, he passed with flying colors. I was so proud of him, and he was even prouder of himself. A little known fact is that Chris was writing a book on being a sniper, and I have it. He wrote about sniper school, about being at war, and the true job that a sniper does while deployed. I fought tooth and nail to make sure the military didn't delete his book from his computer. See, when there is casualty, they swipe the hard drive on their computers before their family receives their belongings from Afghanistan, and I knew his book was on there, and fought every day to make sure this didn't happen. I plan to publish it just as he did. Chris's sniper partner was writing the other half, and has the half about the incident Chris didn't survive. This book means so much to me because it meant so much to Chris, and it is the stories he will never be able to tell us. Those that made it through sniper school. I love the smirk on Chris's face- he was so proud and had every right to be. Being a sniper was not just something Chris thought would be cool, it was his passion and calling. Over the past year I have been slowly piecing together stories and snippets of what happened to my brave husband. I heard a theory several months ago, but pretty much had it solidified a few days ago. Chris's small kill team (SKT) was not randomly stumbled upon, Chris was targeted. This is not easy for me to swallow. During sniper school Chris called me and told me more guys dropped out after they were shown graphic videos of what usually happens to snipers in a war zone. He laughed and said that those that really don't want to do it and don't want to take the risk shouldn't be there anyway. It's true. Being a sniper is one of the most dangerous jobs in Afghanistan right now, and in the region where Chris was, they hated snipers. Chris knew this, and he didn't care. He still proudly toted his prized possession- his Remington XM2010. Some do not agree with this theory, but those that know the story best and the area have told me this, and swear it to be true. They allege that he was watched all day long, and that when they came to attack, they targeted him. In fact, all that were killed were next to Chris, and Chris and his rifle took the most rounds. Deep in his heart, Chris really wanted to protect you and I, serve his country, and do his duty. He felt the best way to do this and use his God given talents was to be a sniper- as dangerous as it may be- and he died for it. He not only died for it- he was targeted for it.Another little known fact is that Chris wore a name-tape that said "Christopher" instead of Horton. He told me that once the enemy and locals saw his sniper rifle, they would be trying to gather information about him.When Chris died and I heard how many rounds his sniper rifle took, I immediately wanted to see it. The last thing Chris gave me before he left was a bullet out of his sniper rifle, and a round. The bullet is called a hogstooth. He was a little nervous to give it to me, he didn't know if I would like it or not. Of course I did. I loved it. I knew what it meant to him, and how hard he had worked to be able to carry that rifle. It was his pride and joy, and it was the reason he joined the Army in the first place. I was told that it was pretty much destroyed, and that it would stay in Afghanistan. My heart sunk, but I moved on and forgot about it. Well, that was until a couple days ago when I found out it made its way back to Tulsa with the unit's gear almost a year later. My heart stopped. I almost panicked. How could this be true? His rifle is back? Was it in it's original form? Did it still bear the rounds from the incident? Had it been cleaned? Could I actually see his sniper rifle? I couldn't handle it anymore -- I had to see it. Just knowing it was so close, I had to see my husband's prized possession. This morning I woke up from a soggy sleep- I was too excited and anxious to actually get a good rest. I got up, got dressed and headed off to Chris's old armory, where he did all of his training and monthly drills. I found myself barely able to control my emotions. This was the same armory I dropped him off at to go to basic training a week or so after we got engaged. It was also where I came to attend numerous holiday parties and small events. Not only that, but it was where I said goodbye to Chris and dropped him off his last day in Tulsa. All of these memories came flooding back. As I walked in the doors, my heart was racing, Chris's sniper rifle was soon to be in my arms. I sat in an empty office with a few soldiers and a fellow widow, and in walked my husband's best friend with his rifle. It caught me off guard, and I had to get up and leave. Not just for me, but for Chris's best friend. It was the first time he had seen it as well. He was shaking. We went in another private room, and I looked over his rifle like a mother examining her newborn. I just couldn't believe here I was, at his training facility, without him, and with his rifle eleven months later. It was a surreal moment. Chris's rifle was not in good shape. This $10,000 weapon was tainted with bullet holes and speckled wounds throughout. Not only this, but the bi-pod and suppressor were missing because they had been completely destroyed. I cried. There it was. It hadn't even been cleaned. My husband's dirt still covered his war companion- but he was no where to be found. This weapon is similar to wearing a huge target in Afghanistan, that rifle is massive, and is very, very hated because of the skills and power of the man who earned the right to carry it. This man just didn't make it home. We put the rifle away for a few hours so we could tend to other business, and then we got it back out again. The mood between the soldiers was somber, it was one of those moments where reality hits you like a ton of bricks. Horton's sniper rifle was back, but he was not. It made his death real, seeing his rifle so beat up was devastating for many to see. A few of the snipers and I again went into another room and looked over his rifle. It was the first time they had seen it as well. It is a moment I will never forget. Many of you won't get this at all, and some will completely get it. There was so much emotion in that room. I finally had to head out and the soldiers put Chris's prized possession away. I left more shaken up than I had been in months. I tried to buy that rifle, I just wanted to keep it, but I was denied. See, there are times when the cost of war really hits me hard. There are times when I live my life and things seem to be ok, but there are times when it all makes sense. When reality hits home, and the war hits home. To see Chris's rifle in such a devastated condition made me feel like I was drowning, it made me feel like I was in a room filled with heavy, warm air, I could barely breathe. My husband was shot to death for carrying a huge target in his hands- his rifle. I just hope this blog helps reality hit home for you as well. Not because I want you to feel sorry for me, but I want you to understand my husband's heart. His bravery, his sense of honor and duty, his talent, and his sacrifice. It was not small. I'm starting to realize mine is no small dosage either. This is pure torture. With all of this in mind, I couldn't be more proud of Chris for working so hard to fulfill his dream of being a sniper. He truly gave this goal his all. Little did he know he would truly give it all for his dream. But- he chose that job, and he knew damn well the danger that went a long with it. When I had to decide what two lines with 13 characters each that I would use to describe Chris on his gravestone, I knew I had to include sniper (Also, Regan passed basic training last year and still plans on being an Army sniper.)

Story- Muskogee police on Friday released video of a fatal police shooting captured by an officer's body camera. Officer Chansey McMillin shot and killed 21-year-old Terence D. Walker on Jan. 17 after Walker allegedly ran from police who confronted him outside the Old Agency Baptist Church.The video shows McMillin firing five shots at Walker after Walker stopped running and bent down to pick up an item he dropped. He has his back turned to the officer, who then fires his weapon and murders the poor man. McMillin was placed on paid administrative leave following the shooting, the second officer-involved shooting he had been involved in during a six-month span. The Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting, and Assistant Muskogee County District Attorney Tim King said they had not yet forwarded his office the case for review. "I believe (another officer-involved shooting from 2014) that the OSBI investigated took two or three weeks before we received the report," King said. "So I suspect that it will be a while until we see this report."

Shock footage released by Oklahoma authorities Friday shows the moment a Muskogee police officer made a split-second decision to shoot an armed man last week during a foot chase. Body-cam video shows officer Chansey McMillin confront a man identified as Terence Walker, 21, on the afternoon of Jan. 17. According to police, the man had sent death threats to his girlfriend, who was inside a nearby church attending a wedding, Tulsa World reported. McMillin is first seen in the video approaching Walker and patting him down. When the officer appeared to feel the 21-year-old's firearm, the man turned on the cop and ran. During the brief pursuit, cops say Walker dropped his loaded firearm and picked it up before pointing it at McMillin. That's when the officer is seen in the video firing five rounds at him. Walker fell to the ground and tumbled in a ditch. The bullets struck the 23-year-old in the torso and neck, officials said. Edited for time.

An Oklahoma House committee on Monday approved a bill taking aim at the new AP U.S. History framework, which conservatives have decried as unpatriotic and negative, the Tulsa World reported . State Rep. Dan Fisher (R) introduced a bill at the beginning of the month that keeps the state from funding AP U.S. History unless the College Board changes the curriculum. The bill also orders the state Department of Education to establish a U.S. History program that would replace the AP course. Since the College Board released a new course framework for U.S. history in October 2012, conservative backlash against the course has grown significantly. The Republican National Committee condemned the course and its "consistently negative view of American history" in August. Numerous states and school districts have now taken action to denounce the exam. Talk about a close call. An Oklahoma man says he nearly lost his penis when he woke to find his girlfriend trying to bite it off. A night of drinking and arguing led to the painful arousal when the victim said he found Amber Ellis "biting his (penis) off" as he slept on the couch Thursday, KJRH reported. He told Tulsa police he fought the 31-year-old off but in the process she hit him in the head with a laptop computer. , Their earlier argument was over him accusing her of being too needy, he said. He was hospitalized and given several stitches to the base of his penis, as well as treatment for injuries to his head, face, neck, fingers and knee. Ellis was booked into the Tulsa County Jail for maiming and assault with a dangerous weapon. TULSA, Oklahoma -An 84-year-old man was able to turn the tables on a robber who hit him in the face and took his wallet. Doug Jandebeur wasn't too flustered about being robbed Monday night in front of his business near 71st and Lewis, especially after he was able to send the robber running away in fear. Video shows Jandebeur walked to his black truck when the robber came up behind him. "The guy starts saying, 'Don't turn around, don't turn around,'" Jandebeur said. At first he thought it was one of his buddies playing a trick until the robber punched him in the side of the face. "I felt him take my billfold out and he head over to the door where my wife was," said Jandebeur. The robber stopped near the door - like he was looking inside the billfold - then, all of a sudden, he took off running. We asked what scared the man off, Jandebeur said, "I pulled out my automatic and was getting ready to ventilate him." He pulled his gun out of his left pocket, and that's when the tables were turned, and the robber was the one afraid. "Once he saw my gun he decided to leave," Jandebeur said. Other than a big bruise on his face, Jandebeur was in pretty good spirits. He said it's just one more event in his pretty eventful life. He hopes the guy gets caught and he's thankful that nearby Video Revolution put up cameras and caught the whole thing on tape, including a shot of the robber's face. Footage also shows, earlier in the evening, the guy waited around, hid behind a pillar and waited around some more, until Jandebeur went outside so he could strike, but was caught off guard.
